Ancient Uzhgorod offers a walk through the streets and alleys, to touch the magnificent architectural monuments.
The most interesting and significant in Uzhgorod is the old center, located on the Uzh river banks. Traditionally for all of medieval settlements, the city was built on the mountain slopes, the top of which was first of wood, and eventually turned into a palace, surrounded by a stone wall. Right from the stone bridge leading to the gate of the castle is a Zakarpattia museum of architecture and life, interesting mostly for its buildings – traditional wooden houses and a church were brought here from the most hidden corners of the region. Every house, every frame and even fence are here to show how Carpathian village lived and evolved, what its inhabitants did, which crafts allowed to earn their daily bread.
